SURSUM REUNION Maes Manor Hotel
Over 100 exBedwellty pupils from the 1960s and earlier gathered at the Maes Manor Hotel. There they remembered their school days, the lessons, the teachers and the friends that all made Bedwellty Grammar School.
They were obviously very sad at the prospect of the school's closure but this saddeness was translated into "Hope" when they heard about Operation Phoenix from past pupil and now Deputy Headteacher Clive Hughes.
Sursum means rising up and they decided to back the "Rising " of the Kings Primary School at the heart of Operation Phoenix by donating the proceeds of the auction. They also had a spontaneous collection around the members and auctioned an old school tie. By the end of the evening Sursum's contribution was £430.
Both Bedwellty School and Ezra were delighted with the contribution. "The rising fortunes of the Kings' Primary School in Uganda will be due to the generosity and hard work of generations of Bedwellty pupils - a very fitting act at this time of the school's life."
